The mission of the Consortium for Transatlantic Studies and Scholarship (CTSS) is to encourage and promote specialized research and multicultural discussion from a transatlantic perspective. It provides faculty the possibility of teaching in Alcalá, while you are in a unique multicultural environment in order to help your personal, professional, and academic development.
If you are interested in teaching abroad for three-four weeks during the spring semester, at the Instituto Franklin-Universidad de Alcalá in Madrid, Spain, this is the right program for you. Since classes take place in Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain, faculty can have a unique experience of in-depth immersion into the country’s customs, traditions, language and culture.
We are always looking for faculty who can commit to teach a 45-hour course (3 credits) in the field of social sciences, humanities, and professional studies with a comparative transatlantic perspective and recruit at least 3 students. The program has a comprehensive international nature since it involves professors and students from different universities.
The program is offered to undergraduate students during the spring semester, and it is divided into three blocks. Faculty will only need to be in Spain for 3-4 weeks. Courses are instructed in an intensive format of 45 hours (3 credits).
Each block will include 3 courses that the students can choose from. Courses are instructed in English. Students choose one course per block and all are enrolled in an “Introduction to Spain” course.
Specific benefits for faculty:
- Up to $1,000 grant for travel expenses for faculty*.
- Health Insurance for the duration of the program.
- Transportation card. This needs to be charged for the month by faculty after you arrive to Alcalá.
- Onsite support during your stay with housing, medical issues, classes, cultural adjustment and any other aspects of the program that you would like to consult with us.
- Participation in the cultural visits organized by Instituto Franklin-UAH during the program.
- Office space for research.
- We facilitate presentation letters to use the National Library, UAH bibliographic resources and archives in Alcalá de Henares.
