The Instituto Franklin-UAH publishes the Annual Report 2024
Today, April 8th, 2025, the Instituto Franklin of the Universidad de Alcalá has published its Annual Report, which includes all the activity carried out by the center in the year 2024.
It includes the data resulting from the teaching and academic activity of the different education programs offered by the Instituto Franklin-UAH. Among them are the number of students enrolled in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years, their country of origin and their individual achievements, such as the Alice Gould Award, a recognition for study and research granted by the Daughters of the American Revolution Spain Chapter to a student of the Master's program Teach & Learn in Spain. Likewise, in the research area, the current projects and their results are detailed, such as the publication of a monograph on the historical diplomatic relations between Spain and Canada, which was presented at the Spanish Embassy in Canada by José Antonio Gurpegui, the Director of the Instituto Franklin-UAH. In addition, in order to thoroughly analyze the unique phenomenon of the U.S. elections, the Instituto Franklin-UAH published the third edition of the Annual Report on the Perception of the United States in Spain, which in 2024 analyzed the preferences of Spaniards regarding the candidates for the U.S. presidency in the months leading up to the elections.
This Annual Report also includes a summary of all the events that the Instituto Franklin-UAH has organized or participated in 2024, including three international conferences (the IX International Conference on the Historical Links between Spain and North America, the XIII International Conference on Chicanx Literature and Latino Studies, and the II International Conference Frontiers and Wastelands) and twenty-two other institutional and academic events, as well as round tables, seminars, lectures, workshops and meetings. Moreover, it features the third edition of the traditional Thanksgiving Breakfast that the Institute has been hosting since 2019 and which, on this occasion, introduced a conversation on the post-election geopolitical landscape between Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría and José Antonio Gonzalo Angulo. Furthermore, in 2024 there were two different editions of the Transatlantic Relations Series, a series of events held since 2014 by the Instituto Franklin-UAH in joint organization with other institutions and with the collaboration of Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU. and the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, which aim to analyze the state of bilateral relations between Spain and the United States in political, social and economic matters. The first seminar, held a month before the elections and titled “Presidential Elections in the United States and their Influence on the International Chessboard”, focused on the campaigns of the presidential candidates and the consequences of their respective victories at the international level, while the second, “Presidential Elections in the United States. Future of Connections with the European Union”, explored how the new presidency of Donald Trump could affect relations between the United States, the European Union and Spain.
In 2024, the Instituto Franklin-UAH became a reference center for U.S. politics in Spain, especially in the coverage of the U.S. presidential elections. Its researchers have collaborated with the most important Spanish media in the months leading up to the elections, during the voting and following the post-election events, featuring over 300 interventions in the written and digital press, radio, television and blogs.
