Summer course "Images and Migrations of the Comic"
Summer courses
The interpretation of the graphic novel, and the comic in general, presents a great complexity that relies in its own nature. It is not a proper text, consisting only of words. Nor is it composed only by pictures. It is a hybrid, made of text and pictures, and this is why its position in the cultural panorama has been problematic since its origins. Its reception is as well problematic, since an academic public focused on the criticism and analysis of this type of texts doesn't exist yet. However, the hybrid nature of these texts duplicates the range of possibilities and narrative resources it has, apart from those derived from language itself. Therefore, comic, besides benefiting from centuries of literary and pictorial tradition, has developed its own mechanisms.
