Tribute to Derek Walcott
En June 10, 1994 the Caribbean writer Derek Walcott, Nobel laureate in literature in 1992, was granted an Honorary Doctorate by the Department of Modern Philology of the University of Alcalá. The Department of Modern Philology of the University of Alcalá wishes to commemorate this recognition and pay tribute to one of the greatest and most important writers in the English language of the 20th century. This Congress is organized to gather national and international scholars who have researched Walcott’s poetic and dramatic work but also to pay a sincere and deserved tribute to honor his memory. Some renowned scholars have already expressed their wish to participate in this Congress / Tribute as well as artists, especially poets, who have somehow been influenced by Derek Walcott’s work. Besides, his partner Sigrid Nama will be present. Panels and Papers are welcome on the following topics:
- Walcott’s poetic world.
- Walcott on stage.
- Derek Walcott: Artist.
The Congress welcomes graduate and post-graduate students as well as more established scholars, and aims to be a forum for different perspectives of research and study on Derek Walcott’s work.
