Terry and the pirates by Milton Caniff and representation of History
Lecture by Francisco M. Sáez de Adana
This lecture will show the representation of the vision of History in the United States in the first half of the 20th century through Milton Caniff's series Terry and the Pirates. Virtually since the beginning of this series one of the author's obsession was the search for realism. This idea became even more important when one of the characters gets involved in the Chinese-Japanese War first, and later, in the Pacific front during the Second World War. Since then, we can follow the history of the United States and its participation in armed conflicts through the eyes of the author. The lecture will show his vision and the impact it had on his readers at the time.
