Ieva Stončikaitė, recipient of the Margaret Fuller Scholarship 2025, begins her research at the Instituto Franklin-UAH
On March 3rd, 2025, Ieva Stončikaitė, recipient of the Margaret Fuller Scholarship 2025, began her research stay at the Instituto Franklin-UAH. For a period of fifteen days, Ieva Stončikaitė will develop her project “Contemporary Perspectives on Female Aging: Insights from Erica Jong”.
The project involves writing a manuscript focusing on the work of contemporary North American writer Erica Jong (b. 1942-, New York) from the perspective of interdisciplinary age studies, and aims to show how Jong's narrative can help create spaces for inscribing alternative female experiences of aging, guiding readers through her journey from her early writings to her most recent works.
Ieva Stončikaitė holds a degree in English Philology (with Extraordinary Prize) and a PhD in Cultural and Literary Gerontology from the Universitat de Lleida (2017). She is a member of the research group Grup Dedal-Lit, ENAS (European Network of Ageing Studies), TCAS (Trent U), and ACT (Montreal U). Ieva has participated in different research projects in relation to cultural and literary gerontology, and has collaborated as a researcher in several international projects. During her doctoral studies she received two scholarships to conduct her research at the Université de Fribourg (Switzerland) and the University Centre Peterborough (Canada). Ieva has presented papers at national and international conferences and has published articles in international journals and volumes such as Peter Lang, Societies, Life Writing, and Educational Gerontology. Her research areas focus on aging studies, cultural gerontology, sexuality, tourism and leisure, and gender studies. She is also a member of the board of reviewers of the journal Internacional Societies (ISSN 2075-4698), published quarterly by MDPI.
The Margaret Fuller Scholarship is a €1,600 grant aimed at AEDEAN members in the field of North American Studies. This grant is intended either for young researchers, or for those established researchers who wish to expand or modify their lines of research. This grant is financed by the Instituto Franklin of the Universidad de Alcalá and consists of a fifteen-day stay at its facilities to conduct research on the topic proposed by the applicant.
