The project “Legitimizing speeches of the conquest and colonization of America, in north and south of the continent” (2011) examines the differences between the conquest and colonization of the South American continent, which was attributed a premodern base, and of the North American continent, modern and seated on trade patterns and individualistic theories of property, as they have served as basic assumption for the explanation of the different trajectories of their societies

“Discursos legitimadores de la conquista y la colonización de América al norte y al sur del continente”. INFORMES USA, Nº17 (Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Estudios Norteamericanos “Benjamin Franklin” Universidad de Alcalá). Enero, 2014, 7 pp.
The purpose of the three meetings that follow was to analyze what was different and similar between the conquest and colonization of the South American continent, to which was attributed a premodern base, even medieval, and committed to a cross Catholicism, and that of the North, modern, based on freedom of conscience and seated on trade patterns. The study of the philosophical and political legitimating discourses of both processes is the basis of this analysis, that suggests breaking with the myths and clichés forged over centuries.
