Global change is a completely new context for mankind in the 21st century; it entails a great technological capacity, but also high environmental risks. Globalizaton and development lead to an increase of the energetical demand, the water consumption, and other resources, resulting in a greater greenhouse gas emission. All this contributes to the acceleration of the climate change process and the ecosystems degradation. Besides, globalization and international cooperation appear as the only possible solution to weigh the incresing degradation of our planet. The Instituto Franklin-UAH, with this research area, tries to understand the main causes of global change, its effects, and possible solutions to it from an interdisciplinary perspective. This area is envisioned as a common ground for the scientific, technological, political, ethical, and humanistic dimensions of the problem and is aimed at exploring possible solutions to these completely new environmental risks that we are facing.
