La alianza americana. La estrategia antiterrorista española y las relaciones hispano-norteamericanas (1996-2004)
Since he became President in 1996, José María Aznar worked to achieve greater capacity for dialogue with the United States. With the aims of improving the Spanish presence abroad, participating in the decision-making of the power nuclei, and collaborating in the defeat of ETA terrorism. After the attacks of September 11 and during the first three years of George W. Bush's first term (2001-2004), Aznar intended to have some influence on the United States. This close bilateral relationship resulted in the photo of the Azores, symbol of a mutual commitment made on anti-terrorism. However, the strategy of the Spanish Popular Party during José María Aznar's two terms in his relations with the United States had an ultimate goal: improving Spain's position at an international level and the international relations between the two countries.
