A Transatlantic or European Perspective of World Affairs: NATO and the EU towards Problems of International Security in the 21st Century
This book studies the current and future state of transatlantic relations and European integration in terms of the impact of the main actors in stabilizing the international scene and in their responses to security threats and challenges. The analysis focuses both on theoretical issues and on actions carried out by NATO, the European Union and Member States, such as the United States, Germany and France. This paper examines the possible suitability of NATO to solve security problems in a situation of growing aspirations by the European Union to play a greater role on the international stage. The real challenge for both institutions and for the most important powers is that of Russia's neo-imperialist policy, which tries to significantly strengthen its position in international politics.
