According to some studies, the events of the beginning of the new century represent a dramatic change in the nature of fictions in American popular culture. This volume explores the socio-imaginary elaborations offered by Hollywood cinema during George W. Bush's dual neo-conservative tenure in his attempt to construct (make sense of) and, at the same time, reflect the dilemmas faced by U.S. society. The text offers, first of all, a brief theoretical introduction to the field of social imagery and the critique of ideologies. After that, a panoramic vision of the cinematographic production of the period in intimate relation with aspects derived from the cultural history of the North American nation is presented. The third and most extensive section of the research concentrates, finally, on the intensive analysis of four representative films of the social, political and cultural dilemmas experienced by the United States in the first decade of the 21st century.
