Historical Links between Spain and North America

Summary:

The study of the historical relations between Spain and the USA is of vital importance for the Social Sciences and Humanities. On the other hand, the present and future of these two countries is marked and determined by unbreakable cultural and economic ties; and current globalizing trends cannot be understood or analyzed outside of this context. This book contains a selection of articles from the First International Conference on the Historical Links between Spain and the US, organized by the Instituto Franklin-UAH, the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies of the City College of New York (CUNY), and the Instituto Cervantes (from April 8 to 11, 2015) in Alcalá de Henares. The works published in this book represent a wide range of disciplines and areas of study with a special emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches to historical relations between the US and Spain. They are grouped into five historical periods: colonial times, bilateral and transnational connections during the 19^th century, cultural and religious connections during the first part of the 20^th century, bilateral and transnational connections during the Spanish Civil War, and post-Civil War relations.
