Del Mediterráneo al Hudson. Artistas españoles en Nueva York, pioneros en Norteamérica
Summary:
Thousands of Spaniards left their homes and went looking for fortune overseas. Most of them chose the territories of former colonies, but there were also those who made New York the goal of their lives, a small colony that remains hidden in historiography. With this book we intend to rescue from anonymity a small group of immigrants that brought the light of the Mediterranean to Manhattan, three Levantine artists that settled down by the Hudson River at the end of the 19th century: Fernando Miranda, Domingo Mora, and Rafael Guastavino. This book is not a mere biography, but rather an attempt to discover how Spaniards lived and created family ties and relationships with the country folk in such a distant and different environment from their own. A study that allows us to analyze the American Dream and the audacity of some Spaniards that wanted to make it a reality.
