Instituto Franklin-UAH analyzes the links between the United States and the European Union with the new Trump Administration
On November 14th, 2024, Instituto Franklin-UAH, in collaboration with the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU., organized the seminar “Presidential Elections in the United States. Future of Connections with the European Union”, held at the Office of the European Parliament in Madrid.
After welcome remarks by María Andrés Marín, Director of the Office of the European Parliament in Spain, Esperanza Cerdá Redondo, Academic Secretary of the Instituto Franklin de la Universidad de Alcalá, Fernando Prieto Ríos, General Secretary of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU., and Ricardo Sánchez-Blanco Codorníu, Deputy Director of RELEX and EU Commercial Affairs, Jaime Malet, President of the US Chamber of Commerce in Spain gave the keynote speech “The Future of US-Europe Connections.”
This was followed by the round table “New Administration in the United States and Links with the European Union Regarding Security and Defense”, with the participation of General Rubén García Servet, former Commander of NATO's Combined Air Operations Center South, Florentino Portero, historian, analyst of international relations, geopolitics and global affairs, and Raquel Barras, Adjunct Professor of International Relations at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, moderated by David García Cantalapiedra, Associate Professor of International Relations at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
Finally, the round table “Analysis of the Electoral Results in the United States and their Influence on Political and Economic Links with the European Union” gathered the experts Anna Bosh, journalist specializing in international information, Ángel Saz-Carranza, Director of the Centre for Global Economy and Geopolitics (EsadeGeo), and Miguel Ángel Benedicto, Associate Professor of Political Science at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, moderated by Enrique Cocero, political consultant.
This seminar formed the second part of the 2024 Transatlantic Relations Series, a series of events organized since 2014 by the Instituto Franklin-UAH in co-organization with other institutions and with the collaboration of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU and the US Embassy in Madrid, which aim to analyze the state of bilateral links between Spain and the United States in political, social and economic matters.
