Instituto Franklin-UAH and Casa de América analyze the US presidential campaign and its influence at an international level
On October 7th, 2024, the Instituto Franklin-UAH and Casa de América, with the collaboration of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU. and the Embassy of the United States in Madrid, organized the seminar “Presidential Elections in the United States and their Influence on the International Chessboard” in the Gabriela Mistral amphitheater of Casa de América. The seminar is part of the Transatlantic Relations Series, a series of events organized since 2014 by the Instituto Franklin-UAH in collaboration with other institutions and with the cooperation of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU. and the US Embassy in Madrid that aims to analyze the state of bilateral relations between Spain and the United States in political, social and economic matters.
After the welcoming remarks, the seminar began with the keynote speech “Challenges for Transatlantic Business Relations in the Current Global Economic Context”, by Inmaculada Riera, General Director of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce. This was followed by the round table “Geopolitics: The Role of the United States and NATO in the Resolution of International Conflicts” with the participation of Javier Rupérez, Ambassador of Spain, General Francisco Dacoba, former Director of the Institute of Strategic Studies, Natividad Fernández Sola, Professor of International Public Law and International Relations at the Universidad de Zaragoza, moderated by David García Cantalapiedra, Associate Professor of International Relations at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Finally, the round table “Presidential Elections in the United States 2024: Candidates, Parties and Possible Scenarios” was held, with the participation of Carlos Hernández-Echevarría, coordinator of Public Policy at Maldita.es, Pedro Rodríguez, professor of International Relations and content director of the journal Política Exterior, Cristina Crespo, researcher at the Instituto Franklin of the Universidad de Alcalá, moderated by Enrique Cocero, political consultant in government cabinets and electoral campaigns in the US and Spain. In addition, the seminar served as a presentation of the 44th issue of the journal Tribuna Norteamericana on the presidential elections in the United States and their influence in the international context, with articles by Javier Rupérez, Spanish Ambassador, Mónica Vázquez, Country Manager and Executive Vice President of ABANCA USA, and Carlos Hernández-Echevarría, Public Policy Coordinator at Maldita.es.
