The Instituto Franklin-UAH strengthens its ties with Canada
Between September 9th and 11th, 2024, the President of the Universidad de Alcalá, José Vicente Saz, visited Canada with Julio Cañero, Vice-President of International Relations of the Universidad de Alcalá, and the Director of the Instituto Franklin-UAH, José Antonio Gurpegui, in order to establish and strengthen institutional and academic relations between the two countries and their educational institutions, and to promote research on Canadian Studies as well.
During the visit, in addition to meeting with senior officials from different Canadian educational institutions, such as St. Paul's University and Carleton University, the President presented the Instituto Franklin-UAH’s silver medal to the Spanish Ambassador in Canada, Alfredo Martínez Serrano, in recognition of the collaboration and support he has maintained with the Instituto Franklin-UAH over the years. In addition, the monograph Bilateral Relations Spain-Canada. 70 Years of Diplomatic Presence, published by the Instituto Franklin-UAH in August 2024. This publication is the result of a research project by doctoral student Diana Ramos directed by José Antonio Gurpegui and consists of a recapitulation of the most important milestones in the joint history of both nations since the opening of the Spanish Embassy in Canada 70 years ago.
