The Instituto Franklin-UAH collaborates in the organization of a seminar on the representation of the Holocaust in Spain
On October 2nd, 2024, the Universidad de Alcalá will host the seminar “The Memory of the Holocaust in Spain: Past, Present and Future”, which will take place from 15:30 to 17:30 in the Assembly Hall of the College of Malaga, Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.
The event aims to explore the construction and representation of the Holocaust in Spain, analyzing how this tragic episode has been reflected in various areas of Spanish culture. The platform developed by the HORES project, which compiles the contributions of Spanish creators to the global memory of the Holocaust, using different genres and media, will be presented.
Speakers include María Jesús Fernández-Gil, Luisa Juárez Hervás, senior researcher at the Instituto Franklin-UAH and professor in the Master's program in North American Studies at the same institute, and Lorena Silos Ribas, who will kick off the seminar with a presentation of the HORES project. Israel Doncel Martín will follow with an analysis of the cultural representation of the Holocaust in Spain. To close, Javier Mateos-Pérez will give a lecture on how the Holocaust and Nazism have been dealt with in Spanish television fiction in the 21st Century.
The event, which will be free until full capacity is reached and is open to the university community as a whole (students, professors and administrative and service staff), will end with a space for dialogue between the attendees and the speakers.
