The Instituto Franklin-UAH and Casa de América organize a round table discussion on the challenges posed by Artificial Intelligence
On June 25th, 2024, Casa de América and the Instituto Franklin-UAH, in collaboration with Fundación Consejo España-EEUU., organized the round table discussion “Challenges and Opportunities, Towards an Ethical Artificial Intelligence” held at the Hall of Ambassadors at Casa de América. This round table discussion served as presentation of the 43rd issue of the journal Tribuna Norteamericana, with the objective of analyzing the challenges and possibilities of the appearance and integration of artificial intelligence systems en several fields such as education, defense or business.
The round table discussion took place after the opening speech by Luis Prado, Programming Director of Casa de América; Esperanza Cerdá Redondo, Academic Secretary of the Instituto Franklin-UAH; and Fernando Prieto Ríos, General Secretary of the Fundación Consejo España-EEUU. The participants of this round table discussion were Luis Usero, Director of the Computer Science Department of the Universidad de Alcalá (UAH); Sergio Sánchez Benítez, Director of External Relations of Indra; and Joaquina Salado Moraleda, Head of AI Ethics⃓ Chief Data Office of Telefónica. The discussion was chaired by Laura Vilamor, journalist for LaSexta.
The round table analyzed the advances and risks of Artificial Intelligence from different perspectives such as the necessity of establishing global regulations to prevent negative consequences and to protect human rights; the use of AI in security and defense fields, emphasizing again the necessity of ethical regulations to guarantee international stability; and the implementation of artificial intelligence systems in business.
