Manuel Peinado, new scientific representative on the European Environment Agency's Management Board
On March 12th, 2024, the European Parliament officially announced the election of Manuel Peinado Lorca, member of the Academic Council of the Instituto Franklin-UAH and Director of the Royal Botanical Garden of the Universidad de Alcalá, as its scientific representative on the Governing Board of the European Environment Agency, based in Copenhagen. This appointment not only recognizes his career and work as an expert in his field, but also highlights his commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of policies based on scientific evidence.
Manuel Peinado Lorca, together with two other leading scientists, Professor Lena Neij of Lund University in Sweden and Professor Franziska Tanneberger of the Institute of Botany and Landscape Ecology at the University of Greifswald in Germany, will be part of the group of experts who will advise and guide the decisions of the European Environment Agency.
Manuel Peinado Lorca is Professor and Director of the Royal Botanical Garden of the Universidad de Alcalá. He holds a degree in Biological Sciences from the Universidad de Granada and a PhD in Biological Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. At the Universidad de Alcalá he has been general secretary, secretary of the Social Council, vice-rector of Research and director of the Department of Plant Biology. He is also director of the Chair of Environment of the General Foundation of the Universidad de Alcalá. He is a specialist in the study of the vegetation of Western North America, where he has carried out his research since 1989. Among his latest research, he has focused on issues related to climate change and fracking. He is also a frequent contributor to the Instituto Franklin-UAH's Diálogo Atlántico blog.
