The Instituto Franklin-UAH and Casa de América organize a round table on democracy and human rights
On the occasion of the presentation of No. 40 of the magazine Tribuna Norteamericana, Casa de América and the Instituto Franklin-UAH, with the collaboration of the Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU., organized the round table “Democracy and Human Rights ”, which took place on Tuesday, September 19th, 2023 in the Cervantes room of Casa de América.
The participants in the event were Francisco Pascual Vives, Director of the Institute of Latin American Studies (IELAT) and co-Director of the Master's Degree in International Protection of Human Rights at the Universidad de Alcalá, and María Solanas, co-Founder of UN Women Spain and Director of Programs of the Real Instituto ElCano, chaired by Fernando Arancón, director of El Orden Mundial.
During the round table, the discourse reviewed aspects related to human rights in different areas, starting from a U.S. point of view and extending the analysis to a global context. The speakers delved into the democratic system of the United States and its foreign policy model, comparing it with the policies of the member states of the European Union and other countries in the world, for example, the emerging giant China. They closed the debate with a compilation of key points on how the United States can move forward on human rights, and how the results of the 2024 presidential election can support or hinder this evolution.
