Instituto Franklin-UAH and Casa de América organized a panel discussion to analyze political polarization and the 2024 elections in the United States.
On the occasion of the presentation of the 39th issue of the magazine Tribuna Norteamericana, with the theme "Political situation and elections in the United States," Casa de América and Instituto Franklin de la Universidad de Alcalá, with the collaboration of Fundación Consejo España-EE.UU., organized on Wednesday, March 29th, 2023, the panel discussion "Political polarization and possible scenarios for the presidential elections of 2024."
The panel analyzed the reasons for the current polarization in the country, and how the levels of fragmentation have been increasing, mainly through the media and social networks, which serve as a direct amplifier for candidates without media filters, as in the case of Trump. A historical review of factionalism and elections was made, foreseeing possible new historical milestones that could emerge from this electoral race. Finally, the speakers shared their perspectives on the 2024 presidential election, which cast doubt on the possibility of Trump becoming the Republican nominee, as well as questioning the likelihood of new nominations in the Democratic party out of loyalty to incumbent President Biden.
The participants in the round table were Pedro Rodríguez, professor of International Relations at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas and foreign policy analyst, Eduardo Baeza, Director of Institutional Relations at Capital Energy, and Cristina Crespo, PhD in North American Studies and collaborating researcher at the Instituto Franklin-UAH, all moderated by Irene Sacaluga, journalist specializing in International Politics.
This event was attended by around 40 people.
