My participation in GIECO came about as a result of the prominence of nature in its different aspects (protective, threatening, utilitarian..etc.) in African literature, my main field of research. Therefore, a critical and in-depth approach to these texts from such a perspective made full sense.
PhD in English Philology and lecturer in the Modern Languages Department at the UR (Public University of La Rioja). Bibian Pérez's university teaching has mainly focused on English Language for different Specific Purposes, at all levels, as well as on English Teaching Methodology. In 2010 she was awarded the XII Elisa Pérez Vera´s Research Prize in Gender Studies (UNED) for her work on African feminisms. Her publications include her book Lo lejano y lo bello: feminismos y maternidades africanas a través de su literatura (2012), as well as chapters in 8 books. Bibian Pérez has presented her research at numerous national and international congresses, conferences and courses, and has also published articles in numerous African and/or literary journals. Her research activity focuses on ecocriticism (member of the research group GIECO-Franklin Institute, at the University of Alcalá de Henares) and on African women authors (member of the research group GIVA, Voces Africanas, at the Complutense University of Madrid).
